Beyond Beauty Sleep – Tips for Looking Fresh

It’s official: A recent study proved that if you rest well, you will look well. But for most of us, life gets in the way of 8 hours of rest, and our unhealthy habits could lower the quality of our sleep.

At Ettitude, we are obsessed about sleep hacks. From the infamous Nappuccino through trying out the newest trend, the anxiety relieving CBD oil – we always look to sleep better. And in this article, we’d like to share our favorite tips for looking fresh and well rested.

Getting the most beauty out of your sleep

1. Drink tons of H2O

This should really go without saying but water is key to your health and keeping your body functioning at its highest capacity. Being well hydrated throughout the day regulates your body temperature, helps you eliminate toxins in the body, and keeps your skin healthy and youthful, amongst many other benefits.

Before bed drink a warm glass of water to detox the body, keep you hydrated throughout the night and improve digestion. If you want some flavor, try adding lemon. Vitamin C has numerous beauty benefits and also boosts your immune system. When you drink your glass of H2O try mixing in some collagen from our favorite producers, Nutra Organics. Collagen is important to increasing your skin’s elasticity as well as helps at reducing fine lines. This aids in looking refreshed and vibrant. If you are craving something besides water try out our favorite probiotic Beauty Renewal elixir from Imbibe. This concentrate has approximately 6 billion probiotics per serving, which aids your gut health and helps skin stay supple from the inside out.

2. Remove your makeup before bed

Make this a habit. No matter how tired you may be, going to bed with your makeup on will only make your skin worse, leaving you with clogged pores, irritated eyes and makeup residue all over your pillow.

3. Create a nighttime skin routine

This is your opportunity to address any concerns and allow your skin to repair itself while you sleep. Plus, having a routine in place will signal your brain to get into sleepy mode. We like taking a bath with a soothing bath soak, our favorite soak is from Milk and Honey. We try soaking at least a couple of nights a week before bed. Beyond being great for relaxation (and your skin!), a warm bath will actually help regulate your body temperature by cooling you down after you get out.

4. Choose the right fabric to sleep on

In order for your body to regulate its circadian rhythm and ultimately achieve a deep sleep, the body’s core temperature needs to drop 2-3 degrees. A falling temperature is the cue to onset sleep, also making you sleep more soundly. Staying cool is one of the most important factors in being well-rested.

Choosing a breathable, thermo-regulating fabric, such as 100% Organic Bamboo Lyocell Fabric, may help you stay cool and sleep well. Bamboo fabric also has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, and it is silky-soft! Your skin will be pleased.

Just remember when choosing bamboo sheets, that not all bamboo is created equal!

5. Ditch your cell phone

When it’s time to go to bed, go to bed. One of the most immediate and best things you can do for yourself is to ditch your cell phone at least 30 minutes before you hit the sack. It’s especially important to avoid screens in the dark as the luminosity can strain your eyes. Check out our article on blue light for more info! When winding down for the night try meditating wit our lavender eye pillow on, which helps to increase circulation and de-stress.
