8 guest bedroom ideas to make visitors comfortable

You have guests arriving in a few weeks, or maybe sooner, and the guest bedroom was the last room to think about. Perhaps you’ve been using the guest bedroom as a storage room or make-shift office, and now it needs to transform for the in-laws, your parents, or good friends.

Where do you start to make your guest bedroom a comfortable, cozy, and accommodating space for your guests? Here are eight guest bedroom ideas to help you create a perfect, thoughtful guest bedroom.

1. Declutter the room & closet

Start by decluttering the room. Having an airy space is always nicer than clutter. Keep in mind your guests will most likely have suitcases or bags of some sort, so think about where they’ll put them, whether they ‘live’ out of them or unpack them. Which leads us to closet space. It’s always nice to have a place to hang items, so clear some space, even if it can’t be the entire closet, and have some empty hangers in the closet. If you can spare an open drawer or two, even better. Getting rid of clutter is the first major step that will make the rest of the steps easier.

2. Provide towels and toiletries

Placing the fresh, folded towels on the bed for your guest is an elegant idea if they’ll be sharing a bathroom. We love our bamboo waffle towels for how soft and light they are and how they quickly absorb water. Placing a robe in the guest bedroom is also a nice touch.

In a small basket in the guest room, if there’s room, or in their bathroom, include a few toiletries they might have forgotten or chose not to pack.

  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush (the extras from the dentist work well)
  • Razor, shave cream
  • Comb
  • Soap, shampoo, conditioner
  • Hairdryer

3. Soft, comfortable bedding

A beautifully made bed with luxurious bedding is a must for guest bedroom decor. These bedroom essentials will help them remember how comfortable the bed was. How well they slept will be one of the things your guests remember most (besides your good company, of course)! Use soft, comfortable sheets like our 100% bamboo sheet sets for a cooling, comfortable, hypoallergenic experience. The bamboo weave is breathable, making sure your guests have an extra-comfy night’s sleep. There’s nothing like crawling into silky-soft sateen sheets, and depending on the temperature, don’t forget a comfy duvet and duvet cover, all in a color scheme that matches your room.

4. Eye mask for a darker room

A silky-soft eye mask is a thoughtful touch. Most people don’t sleep perfectly when they’re away from home, or if your guest has traveled time zones, the challenge of sleeping soundly can be that much harder.  An eye mask is a great way for your guest to shut out unwanted light and sleep soundly.

5. Bedside table and lamp

Even if you don’t have the ‘typical’ bedside table, be creative and put something next to the bed where your guest can place a glass of water, glasses, or cellphone. Maybe use an extra small folding table, a ceramic garden stool, or get creative. Just think about functionality and what will work for their needs. All of these are good tips for how to style a guest bedroom.

On the bedside table, place:

  • Bottle or pitcher of water
  • Drinking glass
  • Coaster
  • Lamp or nightlight
  • Bonus points for a diffuser with essential oils

6. Make technology accessible

Keep your guests connected by providing a charger and maybe even a power strip, as today we all have so many things to charge (laptops, tablets, watches, phones…). A nice touch is to put a note in their room with the Wi-Fi network name and password, and if you have a tv in the room, place the remote in a convenient spot next to the bed with a channel guide.

7. Spotless, clean room

Before guests arrive, cleaning is a boring but important step. Dust, vacuum, clean the window sills. Everyone loves to come into a clean, fresh-smelling, sparkling guest bedroom.

8.  Flowers: the perfect touch

Everything’s better with fresh flowers. If you have fresh flowers from your garden, placing them in your guest bedroom is a great idea. A small plant will do, too. Greenery is a nice way to bring nature in and have the guest bedroom smelling great.

The most important thing to remember is to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable. If you follow these eight guest bedroom ideas, your guests are sure to have a dreamy stay with great company and many memories to cherish until next time.

Note to self: It’s the little, thoughtful things that matter.
